The Triumph of the Sun
Il Giorno del Sole Sovrano
In the heart of summer, when the fields are green
and the forests breathe with life, comes the day when the Sun reaches the highest point in the sky.
It is the sacred moment the ancients called Lithia, the celebration of the great triumph of light.
On this day the world seems suspended between two breaths:
light reigns over the land and the warmth of the Sun enfolds every living thing.
The druids taught that during the Summer Solstice the power of nature reaches its peak.
The herbs grow stronger, the waters flow purer, and the spirits of the forest,
walk closer to the world of men.
To honor this moment, the peoples of the ancient lands would light great fires upon the hills.
The flames danced in the night like small stars fallen upon the earth,
and communities would gather around their warmth to sing,
dance, and celebrate life.
But the ancient wise ones always remembered a truth hidden in the heart of this celebration.
When the Sun reaches its greatest strength...
it also slowly begins its journey toward decline.
And so Lithia is not only the celebration of light,
but also the remembrance of the great balance that governs the world:
light and shadow, growth and rest, life and transformation.
And in the silent forests, far from the villages and the fires of men,
it is said that on this night something even more mysterious takes place.
The doors between worlds grow thin.
The spirits of nature move among the trees.
And sometimes, in the circles of ancient grass that men call Fairy Rings,
the creatures of the faery realm can be seen dancing.
Whoever walks on the night of Lithia with a pure heart might
witness wonders that few mortals have ever seen.
But the ancients warned: not every light in the wood is a friend...
and not every door should be crossed...
