Introduzione
Si narra che eoni addietro un fabbro spinto dalla sua brama di alcol
strinse un patto con il diavolo...
Conoscendo a causa dei suoi vizi e della sue tentazioni
la fine certa della sua anima negli inferi
decise di barattarla con il diavolo
in cambio di una moneta per un "ultima bevuta"
Il diavolo accettò subito, ma l'avaro fabbro
con una mossa astuta riuscì ad ingannarlo in qualche modo
cosi che nei successivi dieci anni Jack ebbe una vita tranquilla...
Quando il diavolo tornò a reclamare la sua anima Jack lo ingannò nuovamente
riuscendo a stringere un ultimo patto secondo il quale la sua anima
non sarebbe andata a finire all'inferno!
Quando morì pero' a Jack venne anche rifiutato l'ingresso al paradiso
rimanendo cosi per l'eternità sulla terra come anima tormentata...
E il diavolo per illuminargli la via gli lanciò un tizzone ardente!
Da qui i cittadini in questo periodo dell'anno usano incidere
e porre d'innanzi le loro case delle lanterne a forma di zucca
cosi che l'anima tormentata di Jack non possa entrarvi...
